FAQs
How can I access the HiSET® account for test center administrators?
HiSET test center administrator accounts are available for approved test centers and staff only. Your state administrator will authorize your access as a Test Center Administrator.
What can a Test Center Administrator do with a HiSET account?
A Test Center Administrator HiSET account allows them to:
- Create user accounts for test takers
- Enter and manage test appointments
- View scheduled appointments and print test day rosters
- Record test taker attendance
- Check in test takers for paper-delivered tests
- View and print test taker scores
How do test takers pay for the HiSET exam?
Payment methods vary by state. Some allow online payments via credit/debit card (American Express®, Discover®, MasterCard®, VISA®, JCB), PayPal®, or HiSET Test Vouchers. Other states require test centers to collect fees directly.
Will I be able to collect test center administration fees?
Yes, test centers can collect administration fees. Policies vary by state or jurisdiction.
Can I accept test taker credit cards?
Yes, test centers can determine acceptable payment methods, including credit cards for in-person payments.
Can test takers pay with cash?
Cash payments are only accepted if test takers schedule their exam at a test center that allows cash transactions.
Can adult educators schedule an appointment for a test taker with accommodations?
No. Once accommodations are approved, test takers must schedule their own appointments through Disability Services.
How long does an accommodations application request take?
The review process typically takes a couple of weeks once all required documentation is submitted. Test takers are encouraged to apply for testing accommodations as soon as possible.
What is the turnaround time for scores?
Score reporting depends on when the HiSET Program receives scorable answers from a test appointment. Here’s what to expect:
- Multiple-choice tests/sections:
- Unofficial scores are available on-screen immediately after completing a computer-delivered test (except for the Writing test).
- Official scores are available within three business days after successful test completion (computer-based tests) or after scorable answer sheets are received (paper-based tests).
- Essay (Writing test):
- Scores for both paper- and computer-delivered tests are available within five business days after scorable essay responses are received.
For the fastest results, ensure paper-based answer sheets are submitted promptly!
What is the difference between the two types of score reports?
There are two types of HiSET score reports, each serving a different purpose:
- Comprehensive Score Report:
- Shows the highest scaled score for each subtest, no matter where the test was taken.
- Automatically updates if a test taker retakes a subtest and earns a higher score.
- There is only one Comprehensive Score Report per test taker.
- Individual Test Reports:
- Issued for each subtest separately.
- Includes the score for that subtest and a performance summary of different content areas.
- A test taker will have multiple Individual Test Reports if they take multiple subtests.
Both reports help test takers track their progress and understand their performance!
Do test takers have to pay for score reports or credentials?
Nope! The HiSET program does not charge for HiSET score reports. Test takers, authorized test center and state staff can self-print score reports anytime through their HiSET accounts. However, official credentials (like diplomas or certificates) are issued by the state , and they may charge a fee for duplicate credentials. Be sure to check with your state for details.
Can a test taker request a review of their scores?
Yes! If a test taker believes their HiSET scores were reported incorrectly or does not reflect their performance, they can request a rescore for a fee of $25 per test. Here’s how it works:
- Essay (Constructed-Response) Scoring Review – $25 per essay
- A trained scorer will re-evaluate the essay to ensure it was scored correctly.
- If the score changes (higher or lower), the new score will be reported to the test taker and their state or jurisdiction.
- The review fee will be refunded if the score changes.
- Each essay can only be reviewed once, and the test taker won’t receive a copy of their essay.
- Multiple-Choice Scoring Review – $25 per test
- Paper-delivered tests can be hand-scored by HiSET’s trained staff.
- If the score changes, the new score will be reported, and the review fee will be refunded.
- Each test can only be reviewed once, and test takers won’t receive a copy of their responses.
- Computer-delivered tests are not eligible for rescore.
To request a rescore , test takers should contact Customer Service at 1-855-MyHiSET (1-855-694-4738).
