About HiSET Practice Tests
HiSET offers several types of practice tests to help you prepare for the exam. Each practice test type is designed for a different purpose.
The sections below explain what each practice test includes and how it can help you prepare.
For any practice test, you can use the Are You Ready for the HiSET® Exam? document to find out if you’re ready for the actual exam.
Free Practice Tests (FPT)
Free HiSET practice tests are available in English and Spanish for Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Each free test is half the length of an official subtest and includes practice test questions, test directions and an answer key.
There are three free practice test versions available for each of the five subtests, FPT8, FPT7, and FPT6A. Stay tuned for the release of FPT9!
Paid Practice Tests (PPT)
Paid HiSET practice tests, available in English and Spanish, provide a realistic HiSET exam experience. These practice tests include practice test questions, test directions and an answer key with rationales.
There are three free practice test versions available for each of the five subtests, PPT8, PPT7, and PPT6A.
Official Practice Tests (OPT)
Official HiSET practice tests are offered through approved adult education and literacy programs. Some states require test takers to pass an official practice test before signing up for the HiSET exam.
Paper-based official practice tests can be ordered using an order form. Computer-based official practice tests are available through Essential Education’s HiSET Academy.
There are seven official practice test versions available for each of the five subtests, OPT12, OPT11, OPT10, OPT9, OPT8, OPT7, and OPT6A.
